Bill Reese sent Bob an e-mail about AmeriCymru, a website on American-Welsh Genealogy.

Reminder:  No meeting in July, the next meeting is August 17, 2008, the third Sunday.  It’s the Annual Welsh Society Picnic, to be held at the Dorothy Hart Pavillion from 5-9 pm.

Business meeting adjourned at 8:01.

Refreshments were served and Bob Roser started the lesson tonight on Welsh Language.  He gave a brief overview on the differences between English and Welsh (more vowels, for one thing), and had started a video from the “Now You’re Talking” series, on greetings.  A guest arrived shortly after the video started, and introduced himself as Gordon Jones.  Mr. Jones drove from Manassas, through horrible weather, to visit us.  His family names are Howell and Reese, from Pennsylvania.  He told us about his background.  We told him about the Society’s calendar, Welsh language classes and the Festival.  Welcome, Mr. Jones, and we hope to see more of you!

The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.

Respectfully submitted:  Jodi Farries, Secretary.

Executive Board Meeting

7:30 pm, April 18, 2008

An Executive Board meeting of the Welsh Society of Fredericksburg was held at the Home of Mary Washington.  Present were Bob Roser-President, Rik Rice-Vice President, Myra Wiggins-Treasurer, Jodi Farries-Secretary, Bill Reese-Editor of the Newsletter, and Dave Rich-Chair of the Welsh Festival.

The main subject of tonight’s meeting was the 501c status for the Welsh Society, which would allow us tax-exempt status.  Being tax-exempt will help us in many ways, with grants and funding, and allowing us not to charge sales tax at the Welsh Festival, to mention two.  Information was given regarding the status and benefits, and the filing fee was discussed.

The Society definitely qualifies for this status.  One of the requirements is that the organization be incorporated, and we are, as an Other Non-Profit Organization.  We meet other qualifications as well, according to Myra.  She brought in a copy of the form that is required to be filed.  Myra stated her belief that we had voted on this in the past.  A search of the old minutes will verify this.

After discussion, it was decided that we would file for tax-exempt status, with Myra filling out and filing the form for the Society.

A brief discussion was held about the Festival of Wales held in Fredericksburg, with it being mentioned that Mr. Griffiths would give a grant to the festival and probably sponsor an act, as he has done in the past.

The monthly meeting of the Welsh Society of Fredericksburg will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Faulkner Hall of St. George’s Episcopal Church.

There will be a Festival meeting held on May 3, 2008.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted by Jodi Farries, Secretary
